Full Recap:
Monday’s episode was all about opportunities. As we started the week there was some very exciting news to share – a new employee was starting for BCBO! Very exciting for the new employee (Carolyn) and for Dan in terms of what it means for the growth of the company, and it allows him to work on something that is not one of his strong suits – training.
Being positive and limiting negative self-talk is very important, but Dan is also realistic when it comes to areas of his life that he needs improvement. One of those areas is training new employees. He speaks, thinks, and acts too quickly sometimes and that is not always the best way to go about training a new employee. Training a new employee is hard. It requires slowing down and putting words to almost all of your actions throughout the day, even the tasks that you have done so many times before that at this point it is simply a reflex.
Everybody learns differently. Some people like to watch, absorb, and take notes. Others, like Dan, like to try and figure things out for himself and be given pointers along the way. One of Dan’s main functions is to put people in a position to be successful. As we continue to grow and expand, hiring and training new employees is going to be a big part of that. This is an opportunity to improve as a leader and manager. Dan will be the better for it, the new employee will be the better for it, and the company will be the better for it.
The episode also includes some great quotes from really smart and successful people about finding and taking advantage of opportunities. Don’t be afraid to say yes. Don’t be afraid to try new things. Give yourself the opportunity to be successful.
