Full Recap:
Hello and welcome to BCBO Daily. It is Thursday, May 6th, and I am your host, Dan Murch. Back for my favorite workday of the week. Thursday. I love Thursdays. I talk about it every week. Again, I’m really excited about it. Thursday is one of my busiest days, but it’s one I get to go over my finances of the company, some big picture things, schedule out jobs, a lot of comradery in the office, all of those good things. I really like forward to it. And today’s going to be another busy day. I know that, but I’m looking forward to it and I hope everybody else’s had a great Wednesday yesterday, Cinco de Mayo.
Another good day, very productive felt like I got a lot done. Didn’t get to spend as much time working on big picture things, which is something we’ve been talking about this week, but that’s okay. I got to do it earlier in the week. I know I’m going to get to do it today. And I already know I have some appointments on my calendar for tomorrow that are solely focused on that.
So overall, I’m pretty happy with the amount of time I’ve gotten to allocate towards that and pretty happy with the progress I’ve made on it. So, I’m going to keep moving in that direction. Other than that Wednesday was kind of like every other day, this week, you know, a lot of stuff going on, a lot of plates spinning a lot of balls in the air, however you want to put it, but got a lot done and felt productive. And at the end of the day, got to spend a little bit of time outside and celebrate, I guess, for lack of a better word, Cinco de Mayo a little bit, which was just an excuse to enjoy some time on a Wednesday and that’s okay. I’m going to take it.
So, it was a good day and today’s shaping up to be a good day too. What I want to talk about today and something we’ve talked about before is as the end of every podcast, I talk about being positive and looking for the good things. Being positive to yourself and believing in your goals and your dreams and not even believing it but being totally committed to it.
Today I want to kind of talk a little bit more about that because, and it’s something we’ve talked about in the past and one of our weekly podcasts with Gina is the way that it can physically affect you. I know sometimes it sounds corny and it sounds cheesy. And if that’s how some people are taking it, then that’s on you because I do believe in it. The physical effects, the things that happening in your brain and happening in your body when you have positive thoughts compared to when you have negative thoughts, it’s scientifically proven, like they’ve done studies on it.
The type of hormones and things that are released in your brain. When you’re optimistic, your brain is feeling happy or optimistic the cortisol is decreased and the brain produces more serotonin, which makes you feel better. If your serotonin levels are normal, you feel happy, calmer, less anxious. You’re more likely to be more focused and emotionally stable, things like that that influence your ability to be productive and get things done. It enhances your problem-solving skills, just your overall mental productivity, and when you’re negative and you have those negative thoughts, you’re just going to have the opposite effect, right?
You’re suddenly just feeling down, and your body feels that way. You can feel it in your body, a physical response to your negative thoughts. So, your kind of are your own fortune teller, right? To a certain extent. If you go into something with already the thought of, I’m going to try this, but chances are I’m going to fail, then guess what? You’re probably not going to do it. You’ve already set yourself up for defeat. Now, if you go into it feeling very positive that you’re going to accomplish it, whatever the goal is, if you’re like, I can do this, I can run five miles or I can increase my sales this month by adding 10 new clients. If you are that positive, and that committed to it, and you truly believe it; you’re not just saying it out loud to somebody else or saying it to a mirror, but you genuinely believe it you’re just putting yourself in such a good position to actually succeed because when the first obstacle comes up, you’re not going to think to yourself. See, I told you I couldn’t do it.
You’re going to be like, okay, that’s all right, here’s an obstacle. Well, I’m going to do this instead. And you’re just going to keep fighting for it. You’re going to keep pushing towards whatever the goal is and moving yourself towards it. And chances are you’re going to succeed.
Just like any professional athlete that we talk about, there are great examples, I think, for your dedication and the right mindset that you have. Yes, they’re physically gifted and you know, some of it’s just God given talent, but a lot of it, and you can read almost any interview with any successful athlete across any sport they all talk about the mental game of it, the mental things that it takes to be successful. And part of that is just believing in yourself.
On an NBA team, the guy who’s the 12th guy on the bench who hardly ever plays. They believe they’re a great basketball player. They believe they belong in the NBA. They believe that when they step out on the court, they’re the best basketball player on the court. And they have to think that way, if they consider themselves to be poor basketball players or they consider themselves not to be as good as anybody else that’s there with them, then that’s the results they’re going to have, and they’re not going to last in the league very long.
You can call it tricking yourself, but it’s really just about that belief about being positive with yourself, believing that you can do things and then letting the brain do what it does. So, if you tell your brain that you’re good at something, and you tell your brain that you’re going to succeed at something and accomplish a goal, your brain is going to help you get there.
Our brains are amazing. I’ve read a lot of articles over the last probably week or so, because I heard a couple of different talks over the last few weeks about these kinds of things. And it really got me thinking, so I’ve done a little bit more research and that’s where I got the whole thing about the serotonin and the cortisol. I don’t want you to think those are just vocabulary words that have always just been hanging around in my brain. I’m not that smart, but through my research, these are some of the things that I found. So. It’s all very interesting to me what you can do just by your thoughts and what you can accomplish just by your thoughts.
So again, I talk about it every day and I know it sounds corny, but that’s how it can have a real impact on what you do. If you start thinking positive today you might not see that effect tomorrow or later today, but over time you keep being more positive with yourself, you keep believing that you’re capable of completing a task, that you’re going to complete it when you go into it without negative thoughts or doubts then you will see results. Or keep telling yourself that you’re probably going to fail, then yeah, you’re going to fail. You’re predicting your own future at that point. And you can do it in a good way or a bad way.
So, I hope everybody goes and does it in a good way because it’s important. Right? So that’s, it. That’s really what I want to talk about today. I think we always need a little bit of a mental health, you know, boost and conversation. And it’s just something I’m thinking about. I hope everybody else is too.
So, it’s Thursday. My favorite day. Let’s go out and get it. Let’s go pay the rent on our success. Let’s jump in with both feet. Let’s get it done. Let’s spend some time working on some big picture things, let’s not get consumed by the day to day.
Let’s focus on our future, pull ourselves towards our vision and our goals with that said, let’s keep asking ourselves that question. How would the person I want to be handle the thing I’m about to do? Keep pulling ourselves forward, keep putting ourselves in that forward thinking mindset.
And after everything I just said throughout this whole entire podcast, we know that things are not going to go as planned a hundred percent of the time, but if we’re positive with ourselves and we believe in ourselves, we’re going to find ways to figure it out and get things done.
So, let’s work on that. Let’s limit our negative self-talk. Let’s be kind to ourselves. Let’s remember that we’re working hard. We’re doing good things. We deserve good things in our lives. We deserve to be happy. So, at the end of the day, when we’re going over everything that happened, we’ll make adjustments where we need to, but let’s seek out where we had success and let’s celebrate ourselves for having that success because we deserve it.
Lastly, as always check out the website. bcbousa.com. That’s where you can get all the good good. And that’s it, guys. Let’s go out and have a great Thursday. Let’s be good to ourselves. Let’s be positive. Let’s put some good out into the world. I promise you. We’ll get good back. We’ll be back tomorrow on Friday to wrap up the week.
Thank you for your time. Have a great day. Bye.
