Full Recap:

If ain’t broke don’t fix it, right? Maybe not. Today’s episode is all about being open to accepting new ideas and strategies in your business. A fresh set of eyes on how your company operates can be very enlightening and lead to some major breakthroughs in efficiencies in your business.

As Dan has been training Carolyn lots of questions have come up about why certain things are done a certain way. Those are great questions! It is important for understanding the process of how a company operates, but also creates the opportunity for new ideas and input. That happened yesterday as Carolyn made a suggestion for reorganizing DropBox in a way that should have a big impact on the company going forward. Dan had become so used to doing it a certain way that it no longer required thought. It was a reflex. There was nothing wrong per se with how it was being done, but Carolyn’s suggestion was way more efficient and effective so that everyone in the company could easily access this information.

As someone who “created” the company’s organizational structure, it would have been easy for Dan to get defensive about his process and disregard Carolyn’s idea. To be fair, 5 years ago that may be how he reacted. Luckily, and thankfully, Dan did not react that way and kept an open mind and not a new procedure is in place. The moral of today’s episode is to keep an open mind and be willing to accept new ideas. If it ain’t broke maybe you should break it and rebuild it better.
